The Craven

Once upon a campaign Kerry, while I canvassed, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious condo of plywood floor
While I plodded, feet a-clapping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As a runner, large and strapping, tapping o'er my shoulder yore
`'Tis some voter,’ I muttered, recapping as he cursed and swore:
“If only we'd elected Gore...”

Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak November,
As each gay-rights ballot measure brought the bigots to the 'fore
Angrily, my thoughts reflected, if Bush were now re(???)-elected
I should not, would not, could not take it anymore
I'd move abroad, somewhere I'd never been before—
like Montreal, or Bangalore

And in this politicized arena, Bush & Co. ignored Katrina
Spending millions, billions financing a pointless war
Approval 24 percent and dropping, without any sign of stopping
flopping, dropping, ne'er stopping evermore
and now deregulation costs us 700 billion dollars more!?
(worthless loans, without a guarantor?)
it shakes me (down) right to the core!

Now throughout the fifty states, as voters tune to the debates
Lament abounds: “if we'd only voted Kerry in '04...”
From blue New York to red Nebraska, Palin's claims that in Alaska,
she spies on Russia from her door, make us slap our knees and roar!
Shall we elect one Bush the 3rd? No, McCain, we'll take no more!
Vote Obama. Nothing more.
